7th World Water Forum Event

The World Water Forum is a large-scale international conference that is held every three years since 1997 in cooperation with the public, private sectors, academia, and industries. In 2015, the 7th World Water Forum took place in Daegu & Gyeongbuk of Korea. The 7th World Water Forum consisted of the Thematic, Political, Regional, and Science & Technology Processes. Besides, the Forum included the Expo and Fair.

This time, the number of Taiwan's participants in the forum has been the largest among all previous forums. There are over 90 people attended the Forum. Not only we held the seminar discussions in Thematic Process and Science & Technology Process, but also set up exhibition booths known as Taiwan Water Pavilion. The main theme of the meeting hosted by Water Resources Agency (WRA) focused on the disaster prevention technology. Section chief Gloria Lin of WRA introduced the structural and non-structural methods utilized to enhance our nation's disaster prevention ability after the Typhoon Morakot. Due to the considerations of the limitations of structural methods, WRA has been advocating non-structural methods in the recent years, such as encouraging public participation, to enhance self-survival ability and let people help themselves. Moreover, in the meeting hosted by the National Taiwan University, director Chiang, Ming-Lang of Water Resources Planning Institute presented the experience on the sediment monitoring and sluicing operation of Shimen Reservoir. This presentation promoted Taiwan's experience attracted wide attention.
