On December 2, the Ministry of Economic Affairs held its first Industrial Upgrading and Transformation Service Team seminar in Kaohsiung. Hosted by Dr. Ming-ji Wu, Director General of the Industrial Development Bureau, the seminar attracted 159 corporate representatives.
Dr. Wu said that the FTA signed between South Korea and mainland China would definitely have an impact on our industries. To assist industries in responding to such an impact, the government should accelerate the proceedings of FTAs with other countries and help domestic industries upgrade and transform to improve their industrial competitiveness.
Approved by the Executive Yuan on October 13, the Industrial Upgrading and Transformation Service Team is focused on reforming traditional industries, consolidating main industries, and cultivating emerging industries with four strategies--promoting high value/quality, completing key factors, developing systems and cultivating emerging businesses, in the hope of to encouraging domestic industries to develop high-quality content in the areas of intelligence, green, and cultural creation.
To fulfill the action plan, the Ministry of Economic Affairs has planned supporting measures with regards to taxation, funds, investment, budget, environmental infrastructure, land and talent, establishing the Industrial Upgrading and Transformation Service Team on October 15, 2014. The service team was further divided into eight industry-oriented teams and seven committee-oriented teams to help with industrial upgrading and transformation.
The “Southern Team of Traditional Industry” is responsible for assisting southern traditional industries with industrial upgrading and transformation. In addition to the provision of a single service contact, the team has also planned localized and customized approaches to motivate the upgrading and transformation of traditional industries.
The Gloria Material Technology OGY Corporation and Everready Precision Industrial Corporation, two successful local enterprises in southern Taiwan, shared their successful experiences of corporate upgrading and transformation in the seminar.
In today’s Q&A session, Dr. Wu emphasized that every industry takes different approaches to calls for transformation. Industries can contact the closest industrial park service center for assistance if they have such needs.
