Creative power to activate city innovation(Source: MOEA)

The Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Education jointly hosted the “Future City Workshop” at Taiwan Air Force site from June 2nd to 6th. Through this event, the MOEA and MOE hope to aggregate the innovative power of young Taiwanese people to sketch the future of Taiwan’s cities. When Premier Mao attended the opening ceremony of the TAF Future City Workshop, he said that Taiwan’s economic model needs to be upgraded. Mao pointed out that the key successful factors are creation, innovation and entrepreneurship. Taiwan’s central and local governments need to work together to spotlight the TAF as a global innovation base. Two hundred young students attended the Future City Workshop. Through the intensive and extensive discussion in the “City Issues Forum”, MIT scientists realized up-to-date situations and problems in Taiwan’s cities. MIT scientists will work with Taiwan young students to design potential solutions, and they will also work with local city governments. The objectives of the Future City Workshop are to aggregate the innovative energy of young people based on the demands of future city development, such as transportation systems, community development, water resource control, food safety control, and social innovation, to sketch the future of Taiwan’s cities. The Future City Workshop, conducted by the MIT Media Lab and the Institute of Information Institute, will help Taiwan’s young people establish a more comprehensive global view. Through MIT’s world-leading research energy, the TAF will become a leading living lab area, and enabling close cooperation between Taiwan’s academic organizations, industrial organizations, and the MIT Media Lab.
