In order to promote collaboration between Taiwan and the local industries of Japan, the Taiwan-Japan industry collaboration office (TJPO) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) signed an MOU on industrial collaboration with Japan’s Kochi Prefecture. The MOU was signed in Taipei on September 17 by Vice CEO Gary Gong of the TJPO and Director General Harada Satoshi of the Department of Commerce, Industry and Labor of the Kochi Prefectural Government. Both sides have agreed that the machinery industry, food processing industry and textile industry are the top priorities for collaboration, and other industries can be added depending on future needs. The TJPO has signed MOUs for industry collaboration with three of the 47 local governments of Japan. The three are Mie Prefecture, Wakayama Prefecture and Akita Prefecture. The TJPO has also established channels of interchange with 34 local industry promotion organizations in Japan in order to link up the excellent small business clusters of Japan and Taiwan. The Kochi Prefecture delegation is composed of GIKEN, KANEMATSU ENGINEERING and dozens of other enterprises. It is led by the Deputy Governor of Kochi Prefecture, Iwaki Takaaki, and will meet with the Taiwan Association of Disaster Prevention Industry, the Disaster Management Society of Taiwan, the Association for Taiwan-Japan Cooperation on Industrial Technology and the Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research on September 18 to establish channels for interchanges in the future, with the goal of enhancing the collaboration between the two countries and raising the added value of both sides’ industries. The TJPO will continue to make efforts to promote collaboration with the local governments of Japan, selecting specific industries for collaboration, and establishing collaborative relations to develop the global market. This will not only help Taiwanese small businesses obtain critical technology for expanding exports, it will also speed up the upgrading and transformation of Taiwan’s position in the global industrial value chain.
