ARBOR Technology Corp. plays active role in transforming Taiwan industry, developing “Smart City” M2M solutions

In response to the government’s policy on industrial upgrade and transformation, industrial computer vendor ARBOR Technology Corp. has successfully transformed itself from a manufacturer into a solution provider. With guidance from the Institute for Information Industry’s Industry Development Augmentation Division, ARBOR has worked to promote the Feng Chia Smart Commercial District Strategic Alliance, and has secured funding support from the Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) for the development of “Smart Commercial District Integration Mobile Application Services.”
Focusing on the Feng Chia business district in Taichung City, ARBOR Technology Corp. has introduced new technology application services into the commercial district, providing business owners with new business opportunities, and enabling consumers to experience a wide range of innovative, exciting new services. For example, digital signage and location-based service (LBS) positioning applications are used to provide consumers with more than 30 different kinds of multi-screen interactive experiences. While by expanding the integration of physical environments with interactive gaming technology, the project has made it possible for consumers to try on clothes “virtually,” or having their photo taken with the business district’s celebrity spokespersons. In addition, handheld device apps make it easier for consumers to access information on Feng Chia business district visitor highlights, stores, parking, etc., thereby enabling consumers to undertake “smart” shopping trip planning, while at the same time helping to reduce congestion within the area.
The MOEA’s Industrial Upgrade and Transformation Service Team for Emerging Industries has been working to promote the development of new industries with the potential of becoming major industries in the future. “Smart City” and smart M2M projects constitute to be one of the key areas the Team has been working to foster. ARBOR Technology’s deployment of a “Smart City” M2M solution in the Feng Chia business district represents an important milestone in the Feng Chia area’s move to a new “smart” era of the Internet of Things; it also embodies the central government’s commitment to furthering the transformation of industry and the upgrading of service quality.
