The Regenerating Traditional Industries Program has been actively promoted by the Industrial Development Bureau at the Ministry of Economic Affairs under the order of the Executive Yuan since 2012, which adopts the strategy of promoting technology and the market simultaneously, and it has been assisting the traditional industries in Taiwan in reaching the goals of upgrading and transforming by incorporating information technology, green technology, and cultural and creative technology. To date, there are very visible results of this industrial transformation success; for example, the food company, O-Nongs, is successfully extending the shelf-life of their food products through consultation, and is able to produce distinct souvenir food products using local ingredients; while Fantacy Story Inc. is successfully adopting the thermochromic adhesive technology, developed by the Plastic Industry Development Center, extensively in daily beverage products, providing consumers with a brand-new experience.
As a taro cake pioneer in Da-jia, Taiwan, O-Nongs also receives consultations from the Taiwan When Happiness Comes program of the Industrial Development Bureau, which is able to successfully extend, under the premise of not altering the taste, freshness with the use of improved packing materials and packaging technology. Their food products’ freshness is extended from the current 3-5 days to 7-10 days. In addition, Fantacy Story Inc., a partner vendor of the Promoting Appropriate Plastics for Food Packaging program by the Industrial Development Bureau, adopted thermochromic adhesive technology developed by the Plastic Industry Development Center into everyday life, where the beverage’s temperature can be shown to consumers, and ensure the best tasting quality.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs is continuing to move towards its vision of creating high innovative value, along with secure, safe, and sustainable ecology by injecting the driving forces for new growth into traditional industries, so that the traditional businesses may further develop innovative more new products, strengthen added values, and expand business models on the basis of providing innovative services, which not only secures industry’s core technology, but also enhances the momentum for sustainable management.
