33 Awarded Organizations and Schools Collectively Saved NTD 490 Million in Energy Costs(Source:MOEA)

The "2015 Energy Saving Award Ceremony" was held by Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) at Huashan 1914 Creative Park on Wednesday, October 14, 2015. Minister Chen-Chung Deng awarded the Energy-Saving Performance Prizes to 21 organizations as well as Energy Education Promotion Prizes to 12 primary and secondary schools. Through 245 items of energy-saving measures (electricity conservation measures account for 91.84 percent), 39,000 kiloliters of oil equivalent and NTD 490 million in energy costs per year are saved, carbon dioxide emissions are also reduced by 98,000 tons (equivalent to the annual amount of carbon dioxide absorbed by 251.2 Daan Forest Parks). Minister Deng indicated that the main item of the "Smart Energy Saving Program" announced by the Executive Yuan this year will be "saving electricity on your own". It is expected to have the collaboration between central and local governments, to put energy saving ideas into real actions, to awaken one's consciousness and enthusiasm, and to pursue 2% of energy saving from both public and private sectors. Furthermore, it is expected to bring up the value of NTD 28 billion for smart energy conservation industries. The award-winning company BenQ Materials Corporation adopts the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to actively monitor electricity usage, provide daily data, and compile efficiency indicators to optimize operation efficiency, which has contributed to an energy saving rate of 9.06%. Poh-Ai Hospital of Lo-Hsu Foundation in Lotung introduced a central monitoring system for water chillers to collect real-time data. The monitoring system optimizes the chiller energy performance based on simultaneous feedback. It saves NTD 8.2 million of electricity costs annually. There is great potential for these measures to be replicated in many other facilities. Bureau of Energy (BOE) stated that the 12 awarded schools had dedicated to multi-curriculum, creative activities and energy saving competitions. They also integrated resources from communities to cultivate younger generation's awareness of energy conservation further. Zhuang-Jing Elementary School was the first school in Taoyuan City to install a photovoltaics (PV), wind power, and water recycling demonstration site. The school embedded energy saving concepts into daily educational activities, developed "Reading for Tomorrow" to inspire energy saving concepts. Yizai Elementary School in Tainan formed a designated team to implement environmental education and energy saving projects, including green buildings and energy walkways. The school has been visited by many groups and has received domestic and foreign attention. In addition to releasing electronic books with 2,500 successful cases, BOE incorporates the real and virtual platforms into the Energy Park website, enhances the promotion of energy conservation experiences and technologies, and ultimately reduces the energy costs in industrial sector. Moreover, the BOE will cooperate with all awarded organizations and schools to plan energy saving workshops in the near future.
