Organized by the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Industrial Development Bureau and the Yilan County Cultural Affairs Bureau, and executed by the Taiwan Design Center, the 2015 Taiwan Design Expo will take place from November 21 to December 6 at Yilan’s Chung Hsing Cultural and Creative Park. Director-General Wu Ming-ji and Magistrate Li Tsung-hsien of Yilan County jointly hosted the pre-expo press conference to present this year’s theme song, “Suddenly Seeing Light Again”.
This year marks the 13th anniversary of the Taiwan Design Expo. This year’s theme is “Makers Boom!” CEO Grace Wang of VVG Group curated the two main pavilions, the Theme Pavilion and Yilan Lifestyle Pavilion. The Theme Pavilion has invited 16 domestic and overseas design brands and teams, including the HXH Group, Sa’Bella design, and Eguchi Toys. With their devotion to traditional craftsmanship, these design practitioners have created an ambience of exquisite craftsmanship through stores at the front and studios in the back, manifesting the exquisite skills and spirit of artisans, and shaping the lifestyle of post-modern society. They make products, but they also make life. As for the Yilan Lifestyle Pavilion, the concept is “Forest Aesthetics, Shared Innocence,” featuring Yilan chairs, children’s furniture, toys, stationary, picture books, and outstanding works by Yilan artisans and designers.
The “AIC-Yilan Maker Space” combines the resources and technology of the American Innovation Center and trendsetting makers to showcase their rich innovative and creative energy; “Boom Brand” invites Taiwanese furniture brands, Macromaison, Xcellent, which integrate practicality and cultural lifestyle, and Dayeh, which focuses on green operation, to tell respective brand stories using own exhibition vocabularies; “Trendy Green Dyehouse” showcases the ever-changing natural dyeing craft through the three aspects of environmental protection, health, and culture. The turn Chung Hsing Cultural and Creative Park into the incubation center of Yilan’s cultural and creative industry, giving the local industry a wonderful jumpstart full of energy.
