BSMI has promulgated safety national standard for LED lamps to improve quality of products and protect consumer safety BSMI, MOEA November O, 2015(Source:MOEA)

On September 23, the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) has promulgated CNS 15829 "Double-capped LED lamps designed to retrofit linear fluorescent lamps - Safety specifications" referring to IEC 62776 international standard. The CNS 15829 specifies the safety and interchangeability requirements, and the exchange operation together with the test methods and conditions required to show compliance of double-capped LED lamps with G5 and G13 caps, intended for replacing fluorescent lamps with the same caps, having a rated power up to 125 W and a rated voltage up to 250 V. Taking into consideration the safety under the condition of installation, in use and abnormal situations, the standard regulates safety requirements and tests, marking, instruction manual, interchangeability, protection against accidental contact with live parts, insulation, construction, temperature rise, resistance to heat, resistance to flame and ignition, fault conditions, photobiological hazard and mechanical strength. The CNS 15829 helps the domestic industry in line with internationalization practice, improves LED lamps meeting the safety requirements of international standards and boosts domestic products to be promoted into the overseas market. To further improve quality of LED lamps and raise the international competitiveness of domestic products, BSMI will continue to develop a standard that specifies performance tests and requirements of LED lamps afterwards.
