A Great Success on Germany and Taiwan -- Green Energy Policy Forum(Source:MOEA)

Co-hosted by Bureau of Energy and German Institute Taipei, Germany and Taiwan -- Green Energy Policy Forum was successfully held on December 10, 2015 at the International Conference Hall in GIS MOTC Convention Center. The opening remarks were delivered by Ms. Yi-Ling Chen, Chief Secretary of Ministry of Economic Affairs, and Mr. Martin Ebert. Director General of German Institute Taipei. The speeches and discussion were led by 11 energy experts from Germany and Taiwan and this forum has attracted about 210 participants from government, enterprises, industry, educational institutions, research institutions and nonprofit organizations. In this one-day forum, experts shared experiences and inspirations on Germany's energy transition, green finance and smart grids. The German experts also presented the progress and development of clean fossil fuel technologies and promotion for wind power and solar power in Germany. Through Q&A, experts and participants actively exchanged views on various aspects of green energy development. Under the trend of growing global concern on climate change, energy transition is considered as an essential solution. In addition to establishing capacity of renewable energy, legislation, public participation, industrial finance environment, power distribution, transmission and management, and other clean technologies should also be taken into account to realize efficient and sustainable use of energy. Germany's energy transition implies a technically and economically feasible, radical change of supply and demand which is mainly based on renewable energies and energy efficiency. Nevertheless, energy transition is a highly challenging task which requires effective policies with public acceptance. On the other side, in order to apply cleaner fossil fuel technologies, the expansion on the use of natural gas and improvement on the electric generation efficiency. Therefore, Bureau of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs and German Institute Taipei worked together to organize this forum and invited participants from different sectors. The discussions on Germany's development in energy policies may bring some implications for Taiwan's energy transition in the future. Both Germany and Taiwan consider this forum to be a great start for closer dialogue and bilateral cooperation in energy field in the future.
