To cope with the potential risks of power shortage in the future, the Executive Yuan initiated the "Smart Energy Saving Program" in April, 2015 for energy saving programs. In particular, the competition reviews creative energy saving measures among cities and counties. A midterm achievement exhibition was held on December 25, 2015. In order to win the prize, all participants showed their creativity in power saving. Moreover, couples of well-known bloggers, the local teams of energy saving and media also joined this activity which was open to the public for electronic voting. Called by the Chairman of the review committee, Minister without Portfolio of the Executive Yuan Shin-Cheng Yeh, the committee members reviewed all 48 proposals for power saving and selected the best 26 participants for the second round of reviews, which required participants to introduce their ideas on site. Then the committee members chose the winners based on the participants' performance in the exhibition. The event was recorded and uploaded on the website in order to attract more attention from the public. Aside from the above, the public, bloggers and media were invited to take part in the event for a closer observation on the efforts of cities and counties. The ambitions on power saving were easily identified through the Q&A between the committee members and representatives of cities and counties. The bloggers and media also took the opportunities to cover more stories for elevating the nation's focus on energy saving. In the event, four theme activities were designed to assist the public in learning particular approaches for power saving and gaining more related knowledge. Last but not least, a short film for Power Saving was premiered and a quiz contest was organized. By holding the competition for creative energy saving among cities and counties, the Bureau of Energy (BOE) expected the public to change the concepts and behavior in power consumption. The public can observe the contents and progress of the energy saving programs for the cities and counties and vote for the best city in promoting the energy saving by logging on the website of "Save Your Own Power (http://energy-smartcity.energypark.org.tw/creative.php)".
