2014 Emerging Energy Product Design Award Ceremony(Source: MOEA)

Global warming is a serious environmental issue that every country can no longer ignore. To reduce the global warming effect, measures such as promoting green energy industries and subsidy policies are taken by many governments. Aiming at boosting the development of local green energy industries, BSMI sets standards for energy saving products and renewable energy products, as well as providing testing and certification services. These green products include LED products, refrigeration and air conditioning, photovoltaic solar energy, wind power generation, plant-based alternative fuel, fuel cells and so on, which could help create a low-carbon environment. To emphasize the concepts of energy saving and carbon reduction to the local people, Chinese Testing and Certification Association (CTCA) held the "2014 Emerging Energy Product Design Competition", which is focused on "energy conservation", "energy storage" and "green energy" for the design theme. The "2014 Emerging Energy Product Design Award Ceremony" and "Green Energy and Energy Conservation Technology and Standard Verification Technical Seminar" were held at BSMI on November 26th, 2014. Mr. Liou, Ming-Jong, Director General of BSMI and Mr. Chen, Chin-Ming, Chief Secretary of CTCA were invited to give the medals to winners of the event. Most contestants of this competition are college students from energy and design departments. The winners are as follows. The gold medal goes to "Algal Bioreactors", which is a device combining bio-hydrogen production system with fuel cell technology. The silver medal goes to "the Flakes", which is a device using photovoltaic solar power to supply electricity to LED. The bronze-medal goes to "Air conditioning Whale", which is a device using condensed water to reduce temperature. The main purpose of this competition is to encourage the contestants to implement the green energy and energy conservation technologies. By creating the added value and enhancing the innovation on product design, it could help elevate the product competitiveness to the market. Through this event, it is hoped that the concept of carbon reduction can be rooted into people's mind. With some creativity, we could protect the environment and the planet by these designs and innovations. Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection, M.O.E.A.
