Director-General Lai of the Water Resources Agency was invited to attend the biennial World Water Congress and Exhibition 2022 hosted by the International Water Association in Copenhagen, Denmark, and was an invited speaker for the Urban Water Resilience and Water Management conference. The Director-General shared Taiwan’s experiences during the conference, pointing out that high organizational capabilities and well-established infrastructure is key to improving urban water resilience. These two factors are critical to urban disaster prevention, and, in conjunction with disaster prevention technologies, are able to reduce losses caused by disasters.
The theme of the 2022 World Water Congress and Exhibition is “Water for Smart Liveable Cities”. The event was focused on discussing and exploring smart, comprehensive, and liveable solutions and strategies for urban water issues. Through the combined use of various advanced smart systems, cities are able to adapt to the effects of climate change. Director-General Lai and the members of his delegation also attended the IWA High-Level Summit and the Utility Leaders Forum private conferences, where various climate change-related water management issues for urban cities were discussed and explored.
Apart from attending the conferences and exhibitions hosted at the event, the delegation from the Water Resources Agency also engaged in technical exchanges with the Danish Environmental Protection Agency and the Danish Geological Survey, establishing a channel of communication between Taiwan and the Danish authorities. Additionally, Director-General Lai was also invited to attend the event’s President Night at the Copenhagen City Hall, where he was able to exchange ideas and engage in discussion with leaders of water management affairs from various countries, allowing many of these representatives to discuss collaboration and development opportunities with Taiwan, as well as express their interest in collaborating with Taiwan’s water services industries.
