The Export Processing Zone Administration (EPZA) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) and Institute for Information Industry collaborated on giving EPZs impetus to convert into productivity 4.0. The EPZA assisted Ghome Scientific Co. Ltd. in introducing ICT technologies to its Surface Mount Technology (SMT) manufacturing process and developing its intelligent flexible manufacturing system, which can supply materials accurately, for improving production effectiveness as well as flexibilities, and becoming an intelligent production factory.
According to the EPZA, SMT is the first process of electronic product production. Recently, Ghome Scientific Co. Ltd. has confronted the impact of intelligent production and labor shortage issues, and its traditional operating process wasted a lot of labors and time; in addition, frequent negligence from its operators also caused a real operating challenge. Therefore, its most important direction in recent years was to promote transformation and innovative value creation. However, corporate transformation needs to be proceeded step by step, especially applying industry 4.0. Corporations require automated production foundation first, and then add intelligent data analysis techniques to it. Industry 4.0 can make all production processes more efficient, and more intelligent.
In 2013 and 2015, the EPZA assisted Ghome Scientific Co. Ltd. to acquired grants from Kaohsiung SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) projects. In 2013, Ghome Scientific Co. Ltd. operated RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technologies and applied materials' "automatic reading and production process". In addition, RFID can avoid manual entry errors, automatically matching QC measured data, and transmitting data back to the ERP data base for storing and tracking. Ghome Scientific Co. Ltd. improved its production effectiveness by RFID technologies, and its performance was directly proved by its increasing profits. In this year, the EPZA continued to guide Ghome Scientific Co. Ltd. for RD input, went further to promote the development program of "productivity 4.0 accurate material positioning and tracking". By supplying materials intelligently, production effectiveness as well as production line flexibilities can be enhanced.
With the active assistance of the EPZA, Ghome Scientific Co. Ltd. successfully introduced automatic technologies for reading production materials in 2013 and its profits increased 12%. Because of its well performance, Ghome Scientific Co. Ltd. built up high confidence in transformation and RD, and was willing to invest more RD budgets to support corporate transformation. Ghome Scientific Co. Ltd. appreciated assistance from the EPZA, and it will establish production systems which have capabilities in making decisions and reconstructing. In addition, its systems can suit small lot production and combine seven production lines (seven production units) to one line for transforming into a flexible, elastic, and smart factory.
