Taiwan FDI Statistics Summary Analysis (May 2016)(Source:MOEA)

According to the statistics of Investment Commission of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, 1,346 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with a total amount of US$5,117,982,000 were approved from January to May 2016. This indicates an decrease of -6.72% in the number of cases, but an increase of 197.97% in FDI amount compared with the same period of 2015. With regard to inward investment from Mainland China, 67 cases were approved with an amount of US$153,052,000 from January to May 2016. This indicates increase in the FDI amount 233.26% compared with the same period of 2015. Aggregated from July 2009 to May 2016, 856 cases were approved with a total investment amount added up to US$1,596,268,000. In terms of Taiwan’s outbound investment (except Mainland China), 221 projects were registered from January to May 2016 with a total amount of US$7,615,577,000 indicating a increase of 34.76% in the number of cases,and a increase of 170.71% in the amount as compared with the same period of 2015. As for Taiwan’s outward investment to Mainland China, 97 applications have been approved from January to May 2016, indicating a decrease of 23.62% compared with the same period of 2015. The approved investment amount is US$3,403,409,000,2.20% less than the same period in 2015.
