According to the statistics of Investment Commission of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, 1,625 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with a total amount of US$5,502,994,000 were approved from January to June 2016. This indicates an decrease of -6.66% in the number of cases, but an increase of 176.76% in FDI amount compared with the same period of 2015.
With regard to inward investment from Mainland China, 78 cases were approved with an amount of US$157,251,000 from January to June 2016. This indicates increase in the FDI amount 239.11% compared with the same period of 2015. Aggregated from July 2009 to June 2016, 867 cases were approved with a total investment amount added up to US$1,600,467,000.
In terms of Taiwan’s outbound investment (except Mainland China), 258 projects were registered from January to June 2016 with a total amount of US$8,209,819,000 indicating a increase of 22.27% in the number of cases，and a increase of 81.94% in the amount as compared with the same period of 2015.
As for Taiwan’s outward investment to Mainland China, 121 applications have been approved from January to June 2016, indicating a decrease of 21.43% compared with the same period of 2015. The approved investment amount is US$4,100,910,000，11.53% less than the same period in 2015.
