2016 Taiwan Biotechnology Industry Pavilion(Source:MOEA)

The 2016 Taiwan International Biotechnology Exhibition (BioTaiwan) was held in grand style from July 21~24 at the Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall. This year, the Taiwan Biotechnology Industry Exhibition, hosted by the Industrial Development Bureau under the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) and organized by the MOEA Pharmaceutical Biotechnology Industry Development group, revolved around the theme BioTech Innovation – Shining in the Asia-Pacific showcasing creative R&D accomplishments of the biotech industry and actively promoting Taiwan's biotech industry to international markets. This year’s Taiwan Biotechnology Industry Exhibition’s revolved around BioTech Innovation – Shining in the Asia-Pacific highlighting government promotion strategies and measures, tax incentives for new biotech pharmaceutical industries and strategies for international cooperation, while also showcasing in a smooth, flowing presentation on the R&D accomplishments made by biotech companies receiving guidance under related programs from the Industrial Development Bureau. The exhibit afforded the industry’s entrepreneurs and public a close-up view of the latest developments in biomedical industry and allowed visitors to directly experience the new technology and innovation in the biotech industry. The Ministry of Economic Affairs stated that Taiwan’s biotech industry has grown to 1,871 companies, employing more than 7.6 million people as of the end of 2015, and has seen growth in business revenues from NTD$ 160 billion in 2005 to NTD $ 298.6 billion in 2015. Looking forward, the Ministry’s six major strategies will focus on strengthening the development of new pharmaceutical supply chains, promoting the development of specialized international PIC/S pharmaceutical companies, establishing high-end medical material manufacturing clusters, promoting niche medical knowledge systems, developing the industrialization of health and welfare sector, and amending the biotech industry regulations on pharmaceutical development, as well as six other major related policies. The Ministry will accelerate the development of the biotechnology sector to a projected output value of NTD$ 500 billion in 2020, driving a turnover of NTD$ 10 billion for the flagship biotech companies, leading Taiwan to become an international pharmaceutical biotechnology center.
