BSMI urges consumers to replace Dunlop tires subject to recall BSMI, MOEA April 25, 2016(Source:MOEA)

The Bureau of Standards, Metrology & Inspection (BSMI) was informed by Kuo-chu Rubber Co., Ltd. (hereafter referred to as Kuo-chu), an importer of Dunlop tires, that 11 SP TOURING T1 tire products produced from 2013 to early 2015 in Thailand and Indonesia have defects that may cause deformation of a small number of tires. Kuo-chu has made a voluntary recall and replacement announcement. The BSMI urges consumers who have purchased the mentioned tires to visit a Dunlop dealer or store for replacement to ensure driving safety. Details and replacement information are as follows: 1)Recall products: Of the 190,000 tires imported, a maximum of 3,000 tires with possible defects fall under the recall category. 2)Defects: The tire defect could cause steel cords to fall out, leading to air leakage at high velocities. Possible indicators of the defect include an increase in tire vibration amplitude that could result in tire deformation. Failure to replace defective tires could result in a loss of vehicle control. 3)Remedy: Consumers who have purchased the mentioned products can get a free replacement at all Dunlop dealers and stores. The recall announcement will be posted on Kuo-chu's official website, its dealers and stores and BSMI's Product Safety Internet website. The BSMI has asked Kuo-chu to voluntarily inform its dealers and stores of the recall. The bureau will not only enhance supervision of Kuo-chu's replacement plan but also tighten inspection on tires of the same brand, same manufacturing country and same category. Consumers with questions about the recall can contact Kuo-chu at this toll free hotline: 0809-011-959.
