Bosch recalls 4-inch angle grinders due to overheating concerns BSMI, MOEA May 5, 2016(Source:MOEA)

The Bureau of Standards, Metrology & Inspection (BSMI) was informed by Robert Bosch Taiwan Co., Ltd. (hereafter referred to as Taiwan Bosch) of its announcement to voluntarily recall four types of imported Bosch 4-inch angle grinders (GWS 720, GWS 720 ET, GWS7-100 and GWS7-100 ET) manufactured between February and November 2015. The announcement was made after Bosch's head office in North America received a report of its grinder (different from the abovementioned models) overheating and melting. Although there has been no such reported cases in Taiwan, the company has decided to voluntarily recall the mentioned models to ensure product safety and the safety of consumers. Consumers who have purchased the mentioned products should bring their products to a Bosch dealer or store to receive a new replacement immediately, said the BSMI. Details and replacement information are as follows: 1)Recall products: About 6,000 grinders of the mentioned models manufactured between February and November 2015. 2)Defects: In very rare situations, specific parts of the mentioned models have a very low chance of overheating, which could cause overheating of the grinder and melting of covers. This could pose a risk of electric shock, burn and property loss to the consumer. 3)Remedy: Consumers can get a free replacement of the same model at all Bosch dealers and stores. The recall announcement will be posted on Taiwan Bosch official website, Bosch dealers and stores and BSMI's Product Safety Internet website. The BSMI has asked Taiwan Bosch to voluntarily inform its dealers and stores of the recall. The bureau will not only enhance supervision of Taiwan Bosch's replacement plan but also tighten inspection of imported Bosch grinders. Consumers with questions about the recall can contact Taiwan Bosch at 02-7734-9532.
