Taiwan’s Deta International Co. Ltd., the world’s top tool magazine manufacturer, and the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), Taiwan’s largest industrial research body, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Energid Technologies of the U.S. in Boston on August 22, 2016. The strategic partnership is expected to help Taiwan’s smart machinery industry. Dr. Ming-ji Wu, Director General of the Industrial Development Bureau (IDB), Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), who led the 2016 Taiwan-USA Industrial Cooperation Mission visit to the Boston area and other prominent industrial clusters in the United States, said the move presents a potential win-win situation for the signing parties by combining Deta’s and ITRI’s capabilities in intelligent machinery with Energid Technologies’ superiority in robotic software and system integration. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Dr. Wu and Scott Lai, Director General of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston. According to the MOU, the signing parties agree to establish a long-term relationship regarding the promotion of advanced software and robotic system technologies in Taiwan and the U.S. Deta will help Energid develop business in the fields of robotics, machine vision, and simulation technologies in Taiwan, while, under proper circumstances, Energid will assist in the business development of Deta’s products and components for robots and relevant technologies by ITRI in the U.S. market. Director General Wu stressed that the partnership of the strongest players in the industry will become a new model in industrial cooperation between Taiwan and the U.S. The parties will work together to expand their dominance in the global smart manufacturing market. Headquartered in the machinery cluster in central Taiwan, Deta International is Taiwan’s biggest manufacturer of automatic tool changers for machine tools as well as the world’s largest manufacturer of tool magazines used in machine tools. On the other hand, the Boston-based Energid enjoys a good reputation as the top provider of advanced software and robotic systems for the aerospace, manufacturing, defense, medical, and transportation industries.
