According to the statistics of Investment Commission of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, 2,273 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with a total amount of US$6,626,548,000 were approved from January to August 2016. This indicates a decrease of -6.61% in the number of cases, but an increase of 143.08% in FDI amount compared with the same period of 2015.
With regard to inward investment from Mainland China, 103 cases were approved with an amount of US$170,025,000 from January to August 2016. This indicates increase in the FDI amount 114.66% compared with the same period of 2015. Aggregated from July 2009 to July 2016, 892 cases were approved with a total investment amount added up to US$1,613,241,000.
In terms of Taiwan’s outbound investment (except Mainland China), 344 projects were registered from January to August 2016 with a total amount of US$9,033,493,000 indicating a increase of 13.91% in the number of cases，and a increase of 4.15% in the amount as compared with the same period of 2015.
As for Taiwan’s outward investment to Mainland China, 162 applications have been approved from January to August 2016, indicating a decrease of 27.35% compared with the same period of 2015. The approved investment amount is US$6,056,551,000，4.27% less than the same period in 2015.
