It marked the second consecutive increase in the index following a 7.78% rise in August, the report showed. Many Taiwanese high-tech firms, part of the global high-tech supply chain, are rushing to release their products in the peak season to seize bigger market shares. The iPhone 7 and iPhone7 plus launched by Apple Inc. in September, as well as new models released by other smartphone vendors, have served as major drivers of Taiwan's industrial production growth, according to the MOEA. The sub-index for the manufacturing sector rose for the fifth consecutive month in September, increasing 6.47%. The biggest contributor to manufacturing growth was the electronics component segment, which was up 20.69%, with the production of semiconductor and flat panels up 44.28% and 15.09%, respectively, the data showed. Meanwhile, the machinery sub-index fell 5.09% in September from a year ago, while the sub-index for the base metal industry production rose 3.04%, and auto/auto component industry production plunged 15.62%, the MOEA added.
