TIPO-JPO PPH MOTTAINAI pilot program extended for three years from May 1, 2017(Source:MOEA)

The economic and trade relations between Taiwan and Japan have always been close. Japan outnumbers other countries in invention patent applications filed in Taiwan. Last year (2016), TIPO received a total of 12,006 invention patent applications from Japanese applicants. And JPO received a total of 1,306 invention applications from Taiwanese applicants. On May 1, 2012, a pilot program on PPH between TIPO and JPO was launched to speed up examination of invention applications on both ends, and allow applicants to quickly obtain patents. On May 1, 2014, the program was upgraded to PPH MOTTAINAI. The current PPH MOTTAINAI pilot program will expire on April 30 of this year. Both sides have agreed to extend the program for three years from May 1, 2017 in order to continue providing this convenient and efficient PPH service to respective applicants.
