Today (July 31st), the Hacks In Taiwan Conference (HITCON) won runner-up, following PPP (the U.S.), at the 2017 DEF CON CTF held in Las Vegas, on behalf of Taiwan. HITCON CTF has entered the finals of the DEF CON CTF for four consecutive years and has won runner-up twice. “The Industrial Development Bureau will continue to interact with cyber security communities in Taiwan and strive to understand their needs and current status in the hope of promoting the prosperity of cyber security communities and industrial development in Taiwan. As HITCON achieved excellent performance in this global competition, Taiwanese cyber security talent has been upgraded to the next level in terms of quality and quantity”, the Industrial Development Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs said in a statement. Since 2015, the Industrial Development Bureau has cooperated with hacker communities to promote exchanges between cyber security talent, assisting cyber security talent in participating in global cyber security competitions. The Industrial Development Bureau also works with private communities (such as Hacks in Taiwan) to organize HITCON CTF, which marks a precedent for the international cyber security competition held under cooperation between the government agency and the cyber security community, upgrading high-level talent’s capacity for international cyber security competitions.
