MOEA Invited Mayors of Six Special Municipalities to Promote the Microcomputer Gas Meters for Natural Gas Safety Enhancement(Source:MOEA)

Since the natural gas users in 6 special municipalities account for more than 80% of total domestic users, Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) invited mayors of 6 special municipalities to record the propaganda videos in person and be the representatives for microcomputer gas meters this year. Taiwan is located in a seismically active zone. Unlike traditional gas meters, microcomputer gas meters are equipped with three automatic shut-down functions for gas-leak, overtime-use and earthquake-detected. When an earthquake of magnitude stronger than 5 occurs, the natural gas would be cut off automatically for safety enhancement. MOEA has been promoting the installation plan for microcomputer gas meters since 2014. As of June 2017, 230,000 new microcomputer gas meter users are added compared to 2013. The annual installation rate raises from 12% to 24% and the cumulative installation rate raises from 7.12% to 13.29 %. More people comply with gas safety policy. With the endorsement from mayors of 6 special municipalities and propaganda videos, MOEA expects that more attention would be paid in household gas safety and the installation rate of microcomputer gas meters can increase widely. MOEA also adopts Let's groove, 6 special municipalities strategy in propaganda so as to increase installation rate. The 6 special municipalities shall hold local activities with propaganda meeting. When developers have new construction projects, Department of Urban Development or Office of Building Administration (OBA) of local governments shall encourage them to install the microcomputer gas meters. Besides, the traditional gas meters in the public buildings shall be replaced with the microcomputer gas meters. In the future, it is aimed to achieve the goal of 100% installation rate.
