In order to fully demonstrate Taiwan’s culinary culture, WCIT 2017 organized the WCIT Culinary Taiwan and Awards Ceremony on September 12 at the Taipei World Trade Center, Hall 3. Newly appointed Premier William Lai, Minister w/o Portfolio Wu Tsung-tsong, Economic Affairs Minister Shen Jong-chin, and WITSA Chairman Chiu Yueh-hsiang, along with all of the participants at the event from all over the world gathered for the gala dinner. Premier Lai expressed his hope that all of the participants, especially the ones from overseas, would join Taiwan in taking part in the latest trends of the global digital economy. Premier Lai stated that, although Taiwan is a small country, the government realized the importance of IT at the early stages of the island nation’s development. The introduction of IT has had tremendous effects on both society and the economy. The Taiwanese people are known for their innovative thinking due to the democratic and free environment in which they live. Over the years, Taiwan has accomplished a great deal through close collaboration between the government and industry. Lai pointed out that, under the policy guidelines of President Tsai Ing-Wen, Taiwan is working to transform itself from an OEM-oriented state to a smart, innovative nation in which the digital economy is fully implemented. This transformation requires legislative reform, talent cultivation, and the Asia Silicon Valley segment of the 5 2 Industrial Innovative Project. Lai also invited industry leaders from around the world to join Taiwan in its digital economy initiative.
