According to the statistics of Investment Commission of the Ministry of Economic Affairs,2,146 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with a total amount of US$4,866,247,000 were approved from January to August 2017. This indicates a decrease of 5.59% in the number of cases, and a decrease of 26.56% in FDI amount compared with the same period of 2016.
With regard to inward investment from Mainland China,94 cases were approved with an amount of US$167,507,000 from January to August 2017. This indicates decrease in the FDI amount 1.48 % compared with the same period of 2016. Aggregated from July 2009 to August 2017, 1,041 cases were approved with a total investment amount added up to US$1,858,351,000.
In terms of Taiwan’s outbound investment (except Mainland China), 320 projects were registered from January to August 2017 with a total amount of US$7,746,076,000 indicating a decrease of 6.98% in the number of cases，and a decrease of 14.25% in the amount as compared with the same period of 2016.
As for Taiwan’s outward investment to Mainland China, 331 applications have been approved from January to August 2017, indicating an increase of 104.32% compared with the same period of 2016. The approved investment amount is US$5,754,236,000，4.99% less than the same period in 2016.
